Successful Demonstration: CAPTAN 12 & INDUCTAN 12 for Large Rotating Machines
Wisegrid Energy successfully demonstrated the combined capabilities of CAPTAN 12 and INDUCTAN 12 for capacitance and tan delta testing of large motors and generators. The demonstration showcased how these two systems seamlessly integrate to perform accurate insulation diagnostics on high-capacitance rotating machines that require resonant compensation during testing.
How the Systems Work Together
During the demonstration, the equipment roles were divided to maximize efficiency and precision:
-
CAPTAN 12: Carried out high-precision capacitance and tan delta (power factor) measurements.
-
INDUCTAN 12: Provided the critical resonant compensation. Its low-loss, low partial-discharge reactor design efficiently compensated for the high capacitance of the test object, ensuring stable resonance and highly repeatable measurement results.
Advantages of the Combined Solution
By extending the testing capability of CAPTAN 12 to high-capacitance equipment, this integrated solution provides several key benefits:
-
Enables reliable and safe insulation assessment for large rotating machines.
-
Significantly reduces the size and capacity of the required power source.
-
Improves overall testing stability and efficiency in the field.
Versatile Testing Capabilities
-
Standalone Operation: CAPTAN 12 remains a complete, independent Capacitance and Tan Delta Measurement System for the insulation diagnostics of standard substation equipment, including transformers, bushings, CTs, VTs, and cables.
-
Expanded Operation: When testing large motors and generators, INDUCTAN 12 serves as an optional resonant reactor, expanding the system’s capabilities to handle these specialized, high-capacitance assets.
This successful demonstration highlights Wisegrid Energy’s commitment to delivering flexible, application-specific testing solutions that meet the diverse needs of utilities, industrial facilities, and rotating machine operators worldwide.
